Tariff Update March 7, 2025
Effective Tuesday, the Trump administration has levied 25% tariffs on all products coming from Canada into the U.S. While some exceptions may come to fruition, this policy is now in effect. This has already shifted with some delays until April.
In response, Canada’s federal government has responded with a two-tranche approach to countertariffs (tariffs on products coming from the States to Canada):
Effective immediately, Canada has imposed 25% tariffs on $30 billion in goods. The list of these goods can be found here.
Canada has also issued a Notice of Intent to impose a 25% countertariff on a further $125 billion of products in 21 days (approximately, March 25). The list of these goods can be found here.
The Government of Canada seeks feedback on this second list before March 25. Input on tariff measures should be provided by completing this form.
See below for a brief outline of some of the key products for the cultural sector that are included in each respective countertariff list. The attached is not exhaustive, and the Coalition would recommend members refer to the links above for the detailed list of items.
As always, the Coalition would welcome any information from members on how these decisions will impact your work.
